Metal finials are usually either in brass, chrome or steel with many different finish variations. Brass has a timeless feel to it, so the more traditional finials usually seem to be in brass. Steel has a sleek sophisticated look, making it more the choice for the contemporary designed finials.

Some finials are a mixture of metal and other materials such as wood and glass. Metal is sometimes used with delicate fluted glass as an elegant but protective cage around the glass. Combinations of wood and metal enable the manufacturers to be very innovative with their designs.

An effective way to create a statement with your window designs would be to choose a different type of finish for the finial or midial to the curtain pole. A stunning example of this would be to choose a black pole and brass finials, curtain brackets and holdbacks. The whole effect would be set off by using a rich gold fabric to compliment the brass.
