Metal finials are usually either in brass, chrome or steel. Brass has a timeless feel to it so the more traditional finials usually seem to be in brass. Steel has a sleek sophisticated look about it making it more the choice for the contemporary designed finials.

Some finials are a mixture of metal and other materials such as wood and glass. Metal is sometimes used with delicate fluted glass as an elegant but protective cage around the glass.
