Decorative hooks are primarily used for securing tie backs or tassel ties in position. They can be very basic or ornate. They are always in some type of metal as they need to be very strong to secure the curtain tie back securely to the wall. Wrought iron and brass decorative hooks tend to be a traditional style whereas the chrome or steel hooks co-ordinate well with the contemporary metal poles. Tie back hooks in some window curtain arrangements are not only decorative, but also an essential part of the design for instance a slotted headed curtain cannot be pulled and is very full on the track as the pole is literally slotted through the curtain heading.
These curtains rely on their tie backs or tassel hold backs to stay open. The finished effect is an elegant drape of curtains either side of the window opening.
Full length curtains normally have the decorative hooks for the tie backs fixed about 95cm from the floor. A good proportion for short curtains is about 2/3 down the drop of the curtain.
Do not fix your decorative hook for your tie backs until the curtains are hanging and you can check you are happy with their position.
