There are two types of curtain hold backs. One is a straight rod which is firmly fixed into the wall at one end and at the other end is the decorative feature. This type of holdback holds the curtains in place on the leading edge of the curtain. The other type of holdback is a metal arm that is fixed at one end and then bends back over the curtain to hold it in place with its decorative feature projecting out over the back of the curtains.
The beauty of hold backs is that it allows the curtains to drape from the pole or curtain track in a graceful swath of fabric. Holdbacks can also be fixed to the wall above a window opening in the shape of an arch with delicate light weight fabrics such as voile or net curtains draped over them as the window treatment. This is ideal if privacy is not an issue or to soften the more severe lines of a blind and to conceal the fixing position of the blind.
This application for curtain holdbacks will give an appearance of height to a small or low problem window. The same idea with hold backs can be used to create a fairly simple drape over a bed, giving the final elegant touch to your new bedroom scheme.
When fixing the hold back to the wall be sure not to fix it too far away from the window opening or you will expose too much of the wall.
Within the last few years, the range of curtain holdbacks has exploded. Modern technology has enabled the production of stunning curtain finials and even more recently curtain midials with matching curtain holdbacks to compliment them. Modern holdbacks are usually in steel or brushed metal with a beautifully creative feature in glass, metal or wood.
