Poles & Blinds Guides

Interior Design

Your choice of curtain fabric, style of curtain heading and choice of curtain pole, track or blind sets the scene for the rest of the interior décor in the room. By choosing correctly, you can evoke an impressive grandeur or a mood of casual ease, a feeling of warmth and comfort on a winter's day or a fresh sun shining feeling, brightening up the dullest of days.

Consideration must also be given to the size and number of windows. The aim during the day should be to let in as much light and to dress the window frame whilst at night, give visual impact and a feeling of warmth and security, whilst not overpowering the room.

Taste is infinitely varied, it develops in us from an early age and is influenced by our experiences and memories which is why a dark wooden Venetian blind will conjure up visions of a tropical forest and a bleached pine wooden blind gives the feeling of a sun drenched beach.

The aim during the day should be to let in as much light as possible and to dress the window frame, making your windows the main decorative detail in the room. At night your window treatments should give visual impact whilst also creating privacy, offering a feeling of warmth and security.

Colour Schemes

The choice of colour for your window poles, window blinds or curtain fabrics is one of the important factors to bear in mind when choosing a new scheme for your home or office as colours can be made to work to your advantage. Any colour used with or beside white takes on a special clarity, even the palest of other colours in the scheme standing out in sharp focus.

An injection of a primary colour, even if it is only a simple brightly coloured roller blind, will instantly spice up any bland décor, especially if you accent the affect with cushions and home accessories in the same vivacious colouring.

Oranges and reds are synonymous with the sun and fire so they convey a feeling of warmth, ideal colours for making a statement. Greens and yellows are colours of the summer landscape, prompting a bright sunny feeling to your decor. Blues and greys are the colours of the sea and sky, inspiring feelings of peace and tranquility.

White and soft colours evoke a feeling of romance and lightness while dark colours are somber and mysterious and often need lifting with brightly coloured home accessories, stained wooden curtain poles and decorative curtain trimmings.

You can have great fun working with colours and often the most adventurous of colour combinations such as dark blue and terra cotta or mauve and pink, not to mention the stunning mix of black and white can be the most effective.

Co-ordinating Interior Styles

The curtain fabrics, curtain poles or tracks and window blinds you choose should work well with the furniture in the room. Sleek, minimalist poles or wooden blinds are appropriate with simple furniture, whereas more ornate curtain tracks and curtain poles or decorative roman blinds are more suitable with period style furniture and décor.

It is important not to overwhelm your room with your choice of curtain pole or blind. If you have a small room with lots of windows, then avoid high drama as it will close the room in too much, and equally a room with large windows but small floor area will become equally overpowered with flamboyant window treatments.
