After the initial excitement of your pregnancy, one of the few highlights through the long slog till the baby is born is preparing the nursery decor. Babies bring to mind soft pastel colours for their very early years and if you are decorating before the baby arrives you will have plenty of time to choose your scheme. Keep the walls light and refreshing so that when the fluffy teddy days are over, you will be well prepared for a change of curtains and bedding to the bold, bright colours that are so appealing to young children, don't worry, lots of colour will be introduced with the toys, pictures and window finishes. Brightly coloured blinds are often a good idea, although there are many delightful nursery prints to choose from, either in ready-made curtains or made-to-measure.
A very smart move is to fit a blackout blind to the window, helping everyone to get a good night's sleep. Blackout blinds are available in many colours, which will ensure that there is a colour that will blend in with curtains should they be included as part of the scheme. A plain white wooden curtain pole will suit any age group, so when the time comes to break all the rules and go for the bright primary colours the curtain pole will go with the flow.
Vibrant colours is usually the brief from a young child. Make the most of the room and try to create for them an inviting space where they are happy to spend time in for playing as well as for sleeping, it will lighten the load for the rest of the house. Many supermarkets, mail-order companies and DIY stores offer fabulous children's ranges with ready-made curtains and matching bedding, allowing you to decorate the child's bedroom with their own particular favourites.
