Conservatory

A conservatory will really open up the lounge of a small urban home or will extend a large country living room into the heart of the garden. Owing to the ever increasingly unreliability of the British summer, creating a relaxing outdoor living space that enables you to still enjoy the pleasure of the garden with the benefit of a roof and walls is becoming more and more attractive. They can however become unbearably hot in the summer, so adequate provisions must be made by way of effective window blinds, ideally treated with sun reflective properties, to minimise the heat from the sun. A conservatory allows you to also enjoy your garden in the spring and autumn and indeed even in the winter with supplementary heating. Conservatories or sun rooms offer an opportunity for alfresco decors within a conventional home.

You can re-create the vibrancy of the Mediterranean look with bold blues or turquoise window blinds, lots of white wicker furniture scattered with bright yellow cushions, plants in abundance and the judicious use of brightly painted ceramics and pottery, evoking memories of happy times abroad in the sun.

Another popular look for conservatories is the sultry exotic look of the East, keeping decorations and furnishings to the minimum. Dark wood lattice screens, cane furniture with deep mahogany coloured cushions and vivacious poppy red blinds or wooden venetian blinds in a hard wood colouring will echo the rich earth tones of a tropical rainforest.

The third popular option for a conservatory is the sun room/sitting room. It has a traditional English country garden feel, with a definite emphasis on comfort. Lots of flower strewn fabrics echo the greenery and foliage connecting the beauty of the garden outside to the inside. Pretty pastel coloured vertical blinds will fit in beautifully with this type of scheme, blocking out inclement weather when required, casting soothing pools of light across the room.
