If you work at home, try to decide which room in the house can twin as your home office, because if you have a computer station set up in the corner of your lounge, you will not be able to relax and set your work aside for the evening if it is always grinning at you from the corner Likewise, if your computer is set up in your bedroom it will not evoke a good night's sleep and may tempt you to get up early and make a start, getting earlier and earlier as time goes on.

A home office set up perhaps in the spare bedroom or dining room will allow you to leave work in progress, undisturbed most of the time, only needing to be cleared away when visitors are coming for dinner or to stay.

If you are fortunate to have a separate study, it may well be a small room that will need to spread its wings. Avoid heavy patterns or bright colours, it will bring the walls in. A light colour scheme of taupes and creams will create a natural ambience, inspiring, hopefully, a clear mind that is not being distracted by an overpowering decor. Keep the window treatment simple, perhaps a roller or venetian blind that blends with the wall colours.

Modern offices are usually based around open plan areas with lots of hard surfaces in metal colourings. If you are trying to soften the look, for a more friendly environment, then roller blinds in warm earthy colours of peaches and creams will give good control over light interfering with monitors and screens, whilst also creating a pleasant glow in the work place.

If however, you want a formal contemporary office area, then there is nothing better than metal venetian blinds, which can also be used to section off areas in a large open plan office.
