Small kitchens or galley kitchens are actually very efficient as everything is within easy reach, the key is to use every available space with storage if it is not being used for kitchen appliances. Painting the walls of a kitchen the same colour as the window surrounds and the rest of the woodwork in the kitchen will give a background uniformity which will make the room feel larger. White is always a firm favourite for walls and paintwork in a room that needs to expand its visual dimensions.
If you are starting from scratch with your kitchen design, a stainless steel kitchen will be very durable, the units in a small kitchen often being subjected to an increase in wear and tear just from the restrictions imposed by the dimensions of the room. The style and finish of the units will create a sense of order, the units and equipment merging as one and becoming in effect part of the architecture of the room. The shiny surfaces will reflect any available light around the kitchen creating a feeling of airiness. Metal Venetian Blinds in a silver or chrome colouring, such as the Silver Metal, will look stunning looking almost an integral part of the kitchen units.
If the kitchen is in a traditional setting and modern stainless steel units would be totally out of place, then there are plenty of high gloss white kitchen units readily available from Ikea or good DIY stores such as Homebase. The reflective light from the shiny surfaces of the units will deceive the eye with a false impression of size. Roller Blinds, such as the Ghost White, make a good choice in a small kitchen because even with good ventilation the odours from cooking may impregnate the fabrics of flamboyant curtains or Roman Blinds. Roller Blinds are available in a multitude of colours and patterns. You can afford a touch of drama at the window if the rest of the kitchen is a uniform colour added to which a bold coloured kitchen blind will visually add an extra depth to the room, try the Acacia Bazaar vertical blind.
