Mocha and caramel are sophisticated and soothing, ideal as companion colours for lighter shades or creams and off whites. This timeless mix of colours is perfect for any modern day interior and yet will still be ideal for a more traditional home with the inclusion of certain time-honoured home accessories such as a conventional wooden curtain pole or roman blinds.
Textured chenille curtains in a soft cream for example will look great with metallic highlights being introduced with a stylish curtain pole such as the Integra Options pole fitted with the Integra Options Sun Pearl finial to maintain a neutral harmonious finish. This curtain pole is a marriage of a classic metal curtain pole with a contemporary finial, made with modern techniques to the highest standards.
The Rocas Moleskin is a sumptuous roman blind masterful enough to stand alone as the main window treatment. The suede effect finish softens the feel of the treatment, a roman blind adding a more elegant formal element than a roller blind or vertical blind.
The Amazon Bark vertical blind is a majestic colour and will also add the look of a natural texture to the room. The cleverly designed fabric imitates a natural woodweave blind, providing a chic backdrop for modern furniture. Dark wood furniture and dark suede or leather seating will compliment this blind perfectly.
As with every colour scheme, lighting is very important. In a neutral setting a combination of lighting works the best. As this is a living room, decide where you and your family will be sitting and what level of lighting will be required for whatever you may be doing in that area. Do you need floor lights, table lights or perhaps directional lighting – a general mix of lighting will suit any occasion, a cosy evening in or a family get-together. Table lights in particular can be an object of great attraction, setting the theme for the rest of the decor.
If your windows are on the small side, or the room faces North, then as much natural light as possible will need to be able filter through the windows. Keep the window treatments as carefree as possible and if you are a dedicated follower of fashion, then be glad that the days of heavy pelmets and swags and tails are over.
Tab top and eyelet curtains are very much in vogue, the neat folds of the curtains making for a chic finish. This style of curtaining will pleat neatly either side of the window, allowing for maximum light and in certain circumstances, the clever use of space such as in a window recess.
Purchasing a special eyelet curtain pole such as the Rolls Neo Bullet pole will make a saving as these poles are supplied without curtain rings – these styles of curtains do not require rings as they are fitted directly onto the pole by the eyelets or tabs fitted in the curtains.
Roman and roller blinds both lend themselves to a modern decor, but again if the windows are small, then a roller blind is better as it rolls well up out of the way. Roman blinds can be used at small windows, but unless they are completely plain, they need a larger area to show off the design of the fabric.
If you are setting up a commercial project, whether an office or restaurant, these colours are incredibly versatile. Colour trends come and go, but a combination of coffee and cream always make a space feel warm and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing spell chatting to friends over a drink.
