Bathrooms were once passed over as a necessity, devoted only to hygiene, missing out on the decorating front, but what could be more sumptuous than filling a bath with fragrant bath oils and relaxing after a hard day at work in a soothing and pampered setting. Nowadays most of us give as much thought to our bathroom decor as to the rest of the house. Most bathrooms today and indeed for at least the last 15 years have favoured white sanitary ware. Coloured bathroom suites come and go, but for a bright and fresh looking bathroom that the whole family can enjoy, white cannot be beaten. Chrome is still the most popular choice for taps, showers etc., and look great with matching chrome curtain poles which have perhaps been dressed with voile or sheer curtains to filter light and to give daytime privacy. If a double curtain pole is used then a secondary pair of lined curtains can be used at night, otherwise a bathroom blind will need to be fitted for dealing with privacy at night.
Many modern houses have an en-suite bathroom, often very small, but can be decorated as an extension of the bedroom to give the bathroom an extra dimension of space. It is a private place for indulging the senses but will require some serious thought as small bathrooms may be a creative challenge as to how to exploit the space available to make a supremely luxurious setting. Plenty of thick towels and lots of tasteful spa-style toiletries from quality high street retailers, are sure to make a huge impact, the glistening bottles adding sparkle to the decor. Roller blinds, or for a more decadent touch, Roman blinds, make the ideal window finish for a small bathroom, fitting neatly in the window recess, helping to make the room feel less cluttered.
