A kitchen needs to work efficiently whilst also being convivial with the family needs. Many modern homes are being built with breakfast/dining rooms at one end, so cooking, eating and general family life can be enjoyed together. This type of kitchen usually comes accompanied with a patio door. Venetian or vertical blinds are ideal window treatments for this situation, leaving window sills free for easy cleaning which can then be complimented by matching blinds on the patio door. It is important to have plenty of dumping space in this situation, or to be an incredibly tidy cook, or the paraphernalia of cooking the meal will spoil the pleasure of eating it.

A modern kitchen means really anything goes. White goods have never been more colourful, the door fronts being available in many stunning colours, ideal for co-ordinating with your curtain treatments or blinds and there are plenty of eye-catching kitchen accessories to finish the look. Chrome or metal kitchen door furnishings will give a very high tech look when used in conjunction with modern metal coloured venetian blinds or contemporary curtain fabrics fitted to chic metal or chrome curtain poles. It is worth remembering though, that curtains should never be hung near a gas or electric hob as apart from the safety issues, the cooking smells will cling to the curtain fabric leaving your curry to linger longer than desired.

If you want a rustic look for your kitchen, select a charmingly nostalgic blue and white stripe window blind or curtain fabric fitted to a crisp white wooden curtain pole. This will give an alternative country look to a kitchen which is normally achieved using floral prints. A trip to the local antiques market or car boot sale may divulge a few original bits that will add the finishing touches of authenticity to a country kitchen decor.
