Masculine Living Rooms

The main differences between masculine living rooms and one which appeals more to feminine desires is the rather harsh choice of colour plus the absence of soft decorations such as floral curtains or blinds, decorative cushions and an abundance of candles and ornaments.

Furniture for a Masculine Living Room

Furniture and furnishings for a masculine living room is often contemporary and minimal. Corner sofas are great if space is at a premium as they give extra floor area, allowing you to put your feet up and truly relax. As corner soafs tend to dominate the room, they are best in pale colours, enabling the more powerful colours usually associated with a masculine living room decor to make the colour statement.

Retail therapy is not usually on a man’s radar so there is usually a noticeable lack of frills and furbelows.

Curtain headings should be minimal, wave and pencil pleat headings are a good choice.

Eyelet curtains fitted to an eyelet curtain pole is particularly stylish, but make sure the eyelets of the curtains match the metal colouring of the pole.

There are plenty of fabulous curtain poles that combine the basic black and chrome details of Media Equipment which will keep the room balanced.

Metal curtain poles will combine the elements of the room if the decor is modern contemporary, as metal finishes usually feature quite strongly in the style of furniture normally associated with a modern home.

Plain metal curtain poles with a simple finial make a statement that is masculine and unfussy, while enhancing the colours of a modern fabric. Alternatively if your furniture is wooden, or you have wooden flooring, then a wooden curtain pole in a complementary colouring will unify the room.

The no-nonsense look of a blind is often favoured for a masculine living room.

Roller blinds are sleek, modern and easy to use. They are also available with a number of special properties that may be required if they are to be used as the main window treatment.

Wooden or tiled flooring is great if the room is geared towards a masculine look, and is the perfect answer for flooring in a room that may need to combine various activities.

A large co-ordinating rug in the seating area offers a luxurious relief and will also soften the acoustics of the room.

Masculine rooms tend to give an assertive look, often being decorated or at least curtained with geometric patterns, stripes or checks in autumnal colours.
