Bathroom Curtains & Blinds

Bathroom Curtains

Bathrooms are often neglected as a room that is purely functional but they also deserve interior design input as the harsh feel of the floors, wall tiles and sanitary ware needs softening with a window treatment. A bathroom may be clean looking and functional with bright white walls accompanied by a fresh blue curtains on a white wooden curtain pole or light coloured curtains fitted to a chrome curtain track that will compliment the chrome bathroom fittings. The other alternative for a bathroom is the more exotic look with sultry coloured window treatments and plenty of thick luxurious towels.

Many bedrooms have the luxury of an en-suite bathroom which is often treated as an extension of the bedroom and as such can be furnished and carpeted. The curtains should match the bedroom to carry the theme through the rooms, but remember that en-suite bathrooms are often rather small so large window treatments should be avoided.

Do not use heavy ornate fabrics in a bathroom as the steam may well affect the fabric.

Bathroom Blinds

Privacy is crucial in bathrooms so the window dressing design must take this into account. Blinds are an ideal choice in a bathroom where steam can adversely affect some fabrics.

Blinds are good in small areas as they can be fixed in the window recess as well as across the front of the window. If floor area is at a premium the blind should be set back in the recess of the window. It will give a greater feeling of space as well introducing a splash of colour in the form of a plain roller blind or in a brightly coloured flower on a Roman blind. Bathrooms need lifting with a touch of bright colour as a relief to what can sometimes be a rather austere room.

If you have a small window in the bathroom and have chosen a blind that is in the window recess but wish to bestow some importance on the window, then to make it appear larger you can paint the window frame with a coordinating paint colour to blend in with the blind. You can also purchase from any good home improvement store a decorative transfer or stenciled border. This would draw your eye to the bathroom window, making it an attractive feature in its own right.
