Colour is a very potent tool in home decoration and, used without any insight, can sometimes have a disappointing end result. Your choice of colour will heighten or calm your mood and alter your visual perception and perception of temperature. A pale blue window blind in a sunny room will give a much fresher feel to the rest of it. A warm colour in pink or terracotta can control the look of the rest of the furnishings.
Choose a colour that you love. If you are not sure what that colour is, take a look inside your wardrobe: it will give you a clue to your subconscious favourites. Go with a colour that you know you like, rather than one that is currently in fashion, as it is a lot more work and expense to re-decorate a room. White, for instance, always looks fresh and smart, especially with a bold colour as the contrast. For a subtler look, go for creams and taupes.
