The bedroom is one of the easiest rooms of a house to decorate, according to interiors expert Joanie G. Friedman.

Writing in her regular column in newspaper the Reading Eagle, Friedman states that the bedroom is very easy to decorate if you choose the right bedspread.

Friedman believes that the bedspread is the most important colour in the room, as it naturally dictates the colour of the walls. She advises homeowners to choose a dark colour, as "many feel they have a better night's sleep in a darker room.''

A dark bedroom may be relaxing at night, but it might feel slightly dingy and unappealing in the daytime. For this reason, it's important to make the most of the room's natural light. Wooden venetian blinds are a stylish and modern way to keep a room suitably dark at night but bright and uplifting in the daytime. They are also an excellent solution if you are concerned about the room's privacy.

Friedman offers a number of other practical tips for decorating the bedroom. She suggests installing tasteful shelves and stylish storage units to add interest to the room and to draw attention to art objects and books.

For informal or casual rooms with wood trim, she suggests painting the wooden parts with a medium-dark blue. She advises keeping the ceiling the same colour as the walls, and also explains that a spot of white can add to a room's design.
