Create the perfect Window Seat in your Bay Window

Bay windows are a terrific asset to any room and will turn an architecturally ordinary room into a living space that is not only welcoming but is also a very pleasant place to be. Bay windows will open the room out, being particularly outstanding if there is a landscape worthy of note. A small bay will give that extra bit of floor area, even if it is just for an occasional table, whereas a large bay will really be an asset to a room as it gives you the possibility of fitting seats under the window. Window seats can be enjoyed by any member of the family for reading, relaxing or just as extra seating.

A large bay window with seating beneath will look especially great with either the blinds or curtains in bold colours, the colours then being echoed in the seat cushions or perhaps with a couple of throws. Blinds can make just as much of a statement as curtains and are often better suited in a bay window, more than ever if your home décor has modern overtones.

Your living room in particular needs as much natural light as possible so unless the window is very large, blinds are probably the best solution to fit into a bay window. They will fit neatly into the window reveal, leaving your window sills free to decorate with home accessories and also, depending on the material you choose, offering many advantages such as blocking out the light or keeping the heat in.

Full length unlined curtains or curtains made in the finest of sheers in either neutrals or dominant colours will add a dimension of glamour when fitted on the exterior of the bay, with blinds giving the functionality within the bay itself.

Combining blinds with curtains enables different weights of fabric, different colors and different textures to be used, working in unison - the choices are endless and the effects quite stunning.

Roller blinds in a bay window will look great especially in a contemporary home, adding softness to the windows at night and when they are open during the day, being barely noticeable. Roller blinds are also particularly effective in a multiple bay window situation as individual roller blinds can be fitted at each window section.

Versatile venetian blinds are great for a bay window whilst also achieving uniformity, if required, with the other windows in the room by cleverly disguising the fact that the top of the window is often lower in a bay window than the windows in the rest of the room and also in a modern window will keep visual clutter to the minimal.

Wooden venetian blinds when fitted in a bay will offer a window treatment without boundaries, catering for many styles and tastes. In the modern home the lighter shades will compliment the latest in home fashion - wooden flooring and modern Scandinavian furniture, whereas the rich, darker shades will add panache to the more traditional décor.

A series of pleated blinds around the bay window will create a gentle impact on the ambience of the room, mellow hues of light filtering through the blinds during the day. As with all blinds fitted in a bay window, they will give significant control of the light as they can be individually adjusted when required to correspond with the sun as it moves around the angle of the bay.

Curtains can be fitted in bay windows, whether they are full length or short being predetermined not only on personal preference but also on the depth of the window sills. Bay window curtain poles can be selected to match other curtain poles in the room, often all that is required is a simple corner joint to take the curtain pole around the bend of the bay.  Wooden bay window curtain poles will best suit a décor based on old fashioned elegance whereas metal bay window curtain poles will conjure up a feeling of space and light often synonymous with a modern décor. Bay windows are the perfect place to relax and meditate – far away from the stresses of city life and hectic family living
