Beautiful bedroom ideas 2020

Your bedroom your haven, your place to relax and unwind after a stressful day. However, when it comes to decorating, people tend to focus on living areas first and then run out of money and energy to focus on their bedroom.  The good news is, whatever your personal style, there’s a perfect design trend for you in 2020.  The important thing is that your bedroom is an expression of you.  So whether you love bright and colourful, understated or art deco, you’ll be able to create the bedroom of your dreams. If you’re looking for some inspiration to create a beautiful bedroom in 2020, from curtain poles to rugs, we have some great ideas to inspire you.

Statement Beds

The bed is still the star of the show when it comes to the bedroom. Fabric upholstered beds have been very popular over the last few years, and this trend looks set to continue, but try and move away from the grey and get creative with fabrics and textures.

An oversized headboard attached directly to the wall is a great statement piece and can be reupholstered in the future if your tastes change.

Luxury Fabrics

A statement bed deserves beautiful linens and fabrics.  Mix and match fabrics, colour and textures to create the ultimate comfy space.  Scatter cushions and throws can turn a boring plain duvet set into a beautiful, stylish place to relax.

Unclutter your life and your bedroom

Marie Kondo seems to have inspired everyone to declutter their lives.  That’s a good thing too, as living in a clutter-free, organised space improves mood, productivity and even family relationships.

Decluttering is not just for your wardrobes and cupboards. By creating a clean and organised bedroom, you are far more likely to relax and enjoy spending time there.  No more using that chair as a second wardrobe or throwing your laundry into a pile in the corner.

Start by going through all of your wardrobes, drawers and getting rid of what you don’t need or shouldn’t be there.  Be ruthless.

If you’re completely renovating your bedroom, look for furniture that has plenty of storage, or invest in decorative boxes and other storage to hide your things away.

Beds also offer great opportunities for extra storage.  Some raise up and have space under the mattress to store your items, others have drawers built into the base. If your bed a standard frame only, then invest in some beautiful, wheeled, under bed units that will slide in and out easily for you to put your things.

Windows Will Become A Feature

bedroom ideas 2020

When decorating a bedroom, people tend to focus on the walls and furniture, the windows are often an afterthought.  People tend to buy a set of curtains to match their duvet cover and this is it.

If you aren’t making your windows a feature then you’re missing the opportunity to create a really great space where the design flows right through every feature.

Most people sleep better in the dark, so make sure that your bedroom curtains have a blackout lining, even if they’re a lighter colour. Look for curtain poles and curtain tracks that complement the decor in the rest of the room.

You aren’t limited to curtains either, bespoke blinds and shutters are also great practical design features that look way more expensive than they are.

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark

Bedrooms are often decorated in light or neutral colours.  Any brighter, richer colours are usually reserved for a feature wall or soft furnishings.  People generally do this to create a feeling of space and light.  Most people’s bedrooms aren’t huge, so need to be decorated as sympathetically as possible to maximise the space.

If you’re lucky enough to have a larger bedroom, then take a chance and go with a darker palette.  Don’t worry, you won’t end up with a room that looks like a goth’s bedroom.  Focus on using navy, dark plum or even a dark grey to create that sumptuous interior.

Upcycle Your Existing Furniture

If you want to change the look of your bedroom, but don’t have the budget, then it’s time to get creative.

You can dramatically change the look of your room with a few key pieces such as a new pair of bedroom curtains, throw cushions, a rug and a lampshade.  Then look at the furniture you already have and what you could do with it. Reupholster chairs, or a coat of furniture paint and some new handles can transform wardrobes and dressers.

Have some old wooden flooring lying around? You could attach it to the wall and turn it into a feature wall.  Make old pallets into an interesting bed base or use a curtain pole to hang a length of beautiful fabric instead of wallpaper.

If you’re willing to put in a little effort, then you’re only limited by your imagination.

Create A Place To Unplug

bedroom ideas 2020

Technology is everywhere in our homes.  Phones, tablets, smart speakers, TVs.  There are probably multiple devices in every room in the house.  2020 is likely to see a move towards a less intrusive use of technology.

So instead of going to sleep with your phone or watching a giant TV on your wall, create a technology-free zone.  If you do need to have your phone in your bedroom, charge it away from your bed. That way it won’t be in arms reach for you to check it, but you can still answer it should there be an important call while you’re sleeping.  Go old school and buy an alarm clock if you rely on your phone to wake you up in the mornings.

Overall, 2020 will see more people remove TVs from their bedrooms, removing the temptation entirely and creating a true oasis in which to relax.
