How to Measure for new Blinds
The information on this page should be everything you need to confidently measure a window for new blinds. You just need to decide whether the blinds are to be hung INSIDE or OUTSIDE the window recess. Once you have made this decision you are ready to start measuring for you new blinds. Just answer these simple four questions before moving on to the specific measuring instructions. If you need help fitting and hanging your new blinds, please visit our fitting advice section.
1) Do I Measure in Centimetres or Inches?
All Poles & Blinds products are shown in both units so you can choose either format. You must take care when you are measuring to stay in whichever unit you decide to use to avoid confusion.
- Measuring in Centimetres (cm)
Measure to the nearest 0.1cm.
When entering the measurements on the website for example 100cm & 5 millimetres is entered as 100.5 .
- Measuring in Inches (")
You can enter inches and fractions of an inch to ensure your measurements are as accurate as possible.
2) Where do you want your blinds to fit ?
You can choose whether to have your blinds fitted inside or outside the window recess. This applies to all types of blinds:
3) Exact or Recess? What does this mean?
Exact Fit Blinds
Exact is when you want your blind to be fitted on the outside of the window recess.
Recess Fit Blinds
Recess is when you want your blind to be fitted on the inside the window recess, you do not have to make any adjustments to allow for the fittings - this will happen automatically when you order a recess blind.
How to Measure for Exact (blinds fitted outside the window)
The measuring instructions below apply to all types of blinds.
1) Measure the width of the area you wish your blind to cover, shown as (A).
2) Measure the drop of the area you wish your blind to cover, shown as (B).
You can now start shopping for your new blind.
How to Measure for Recess (blinds fitted inside the window)
The measuring instructions below apply to all types of blinds.
1) Measure the exact width inside the recess making sure you take into account if there are tiles partially fitted in the recess.
Note the total width of the roller blind includes the brackets and control mechanism, we will adjust your measurements to allow for this.
2) Measure the drop inside the recess as shown in the diagram.
